The Role of the Citizen Advisory Committee
The 15-member Citizen Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring openness and public input in the CDBG-MIT funding process. Established jointly by the North Carolina Administration for the Recovery and Resilience (Ncorr) and the State Disaster Recovery Task Force, the committee serves as a platform for community feedback on proposed mitigation projects. Currently, North Carolina is receiving important CDBG-MIT funding – over $780 million was allocated in 2023 alone – to address vulnerabilities exposed by recent natural disasters. The committee’s composition reflects a commitment to representing the communities most impacted by events like Hurricanes Matthew and Florence, alongside individuals possessing specialized expertise in relevant fields. These areas, as defined by HUD, experienced the most ample damage and continue to require substantial investment in recovery and mitigation.
