Colin Farrell Finishes Dublin Marathon

Colin Farrell, renowned for his roles in films like The Penguin and The Banshees of Inisherin, recently completed the Irish Life Dublin Marathon, showcasing his dedication to charity and friendship.

Farrell crossed the finish line alongside longtime friend Emma Fogarty, who lives with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic skin condition. Fogarty, celebrating her 40th birthday, joined Farrell for the final 2.5 miles, with Farrell wheeling her to the finish.

A heartwarming video captured at the finish line shows Farrell embracing Fogarty as he rests, playfully asking, “Shall we go again?”

Farrell’s participation in the marathon wasn’t just a personal challenge; it was a powerful fundraising effort. Farrell and Fogarty surpassed their initial goal of €400,000 for Debra Ireland, the organization supporting EB research and awareness. Their combined efforts raised a staggering €679,000 (roughly $733 million) as of a day before the marathon.

Debra Ireland describes EB, often referred to as “butterfly skin,” as an incurable and painful blistering condition affecting millions worldwide. People with EB lack essential proteins needed to bind skin layers, leading to painful blisters from minor friction, movement, or trauma. Severe forms of EB often result in a shortened lifespan.

“That run was nothing compared to the pain she is forced to endure every single day, even though she doesn’t show it,” Farrell told The Irish Times. “It was an honor to see her waiting for me with 4km to go, each of those representing a decade of her life, and to do the final stretch together. I’ll never forget it.”

Farrell’s commitment to philanthropy extends beyond this marathon. Earlier this year, he founded the Colin Farrell Foundation, dedicated to supporting adult children with intellectual disabilities. Inspired by his son, who has Angelman Syndrome, the foundation aims to bridge resource gaps through advocacy, education, and innovative programs.

Farrell’s actions demonstrate the power of compassion and dedication. His commitment to supporting those in need, both through his foundation and his participation in the Dublin Marathon, is truly inspiring.
