College Football Playoff Projections: Predicting the 12-Team Field

RJ Young, an analyst for FOX Sports, shares his updated College Football Playoff predictions following the conference championship weekend.

Now that conference championship weekend has concluded, the College Football Playoff selection committee have a difficult task ahead. It feels like Oregon and Georgia have secured the top two spots in the first-ever 12-team CFP, and there are three teams battling it out for the remaining two first-round byes: Big 12 champion Arizona State, ACC champion Clemson, and Mountain West champion Boise State.

Arizona State’s Dominant Run

The Sun Devils sit at 11-2 with a dominant win over Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship Game. Kenny Dillingham turned a team that went 3-9 last season into a winning team on a six-game winning streak averaging 37.2 points per contest during that streak.

Clemson’s Recent Title

Dabo Swinney’s program earned

fresh off a victory over SMU in the title game. Clemson did not have a ranked win on its resume before Saturday night.

Boise State’s Historic Season

Led by Ashton Jeanty, who has rushed for nearly 2,500 yards and can break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record (2,629) in BSU’s first CFP game. The Broncos are loss this season

What will the committee do? We’ll find out at Noon ET on Sunday. Here are my updated CFP projections:
