Hilary Knight, Megan Keller, and Hughes Brothers Join Connor Storrie on ‘SNL’
Saturday Night Live host Connor Storrie received a boost during his monologue from a group of celebrated U.S. Hockey stars: Hilary Knight, Megan Keller, Jack Hughes, and Quinn Hughes. The appearance came after a week of discussion surrounding a congratulatory call from President Trump to the U.S. Men’s hockey team following their Olympic win.
A Lighthearted Moment Following Controversy
Knight, the captain of the U.S. Women’s hockey team, along with teammate Megan Keller, joined Storrie and the Hughes brothers on stage to a warm reception. Knight playfully remarked, “It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too,” referencing the recent controversy.
The Trump Call and Subsequent Reactions
The controversy began when President Trump called the U.S. Men’s team after their 2-1 overtime victory against Canada at the Milan Cortina Games on February 22nd. During the call, Trump invited the men to his State of the Union address, then added he would have to invite the women’s team as well, joking that he’d risk impeachment if he didn’t.
Hilary Knight described the joke as “distasteful and unfortunate.” Several members of the men’s team acknowledged they “should have reacted differently” to the President’s remarks, with some apologizing for their response. Knight emphasized the importance of focusing on the connection and mutual support between the men’s and women’s teams, rather than letting the narrative overshadow their achievements.
Olympic Success for Both Teams
Both the U.S. Men’s and women’s hockey teams secured gold medals at the Milan Cortina Games. The U.S. Women’s team also defeated Canada 2-1 in an overtime thriller just days before the men’s victory.
Storrie’s ‘SNL’ Debut
This appearance marked a significant moment for Connor Storrie, who was hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ for the first time. He was joined by musical guest Mumford & Sons during the display. CBS News reported the event took place on Saturday night.
