The Coronado Island Film Festival concluded its five-day run after screening short animated projects, hosting workshops, and exhibiting panel discussions. Coronadotimes.com reported that the event ran from November 4 to 8.

Animation Showcase 1 took place on November 6 inside the Nautilus Room at the Coronado Community Center. The curated screening highlighted inventive storytelling techniques across a diverse range of visual styles.

Nautilus Room Screenings

Several featured shorts relied entirely on visual storytelling without dialogue. Leg Day followed a penguin working out for a specific goal, while Fold explored a young boy using origami to process the loss of his father.

Leg Day

Foreign entries brought different cultural perspectives to the program. Three Words examined the emotional weight of a simple declaration, and Bridge my Little Friends, an anime short from Japan, featured a talking cat building a rainbow bridge for a grieving girl.

The Craftsman History

The showcase concluded with a question-and-answer session featuring filmmakers Juliane Morris, Jeanne Scott, and Devin Scott, who discussed their San Diego-connected project. Devin Scott created The Craftsman to document the true story of his grandfather, Felix Landers, a master woodworker in El Cajon during the 1940s.

Bridge my Little Friends

Landers built four distinct violins using salvaged doors aged 60 to 100 years. Each door’s unique history shaped the tonal quality of the instrument it became. Although three of the original violins were stolen and the audio tapes Landers recorded were lost, Devin Scott reconstructed the family history from childhood memories.

Devin Scott Discusses Incorporating Artificial Intelligence into Production Workflows

During the post-screening panel, Devin Scott spoke about incorporating artificial intelligence into modern production workflows. He described AI as a practical tool rather than a replacement for human creativity.

Wildkind

Stories rise above technical tools, Scott told the audience, according to coronadotimes.com. He also predicted that AI integration will become standard across the industry within a few years.

Festival Timeline

Festival organizers have not yet announced official dates for the 2027 event. Traditionally, the Coronado Island Film Festival takes place during the first full week of November.
