Users who dislike swiping up to bring up the app drawer can restore the classic app button on Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 9, Engadget reported.
Android’s default operating system organizes applications inside a dedicated app drawer to reduce home screen clutter, replacing the old “all apps” button with modern gestures.
Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 9 hide this shortcut by default, requiring users to manually toggle the option back on through the device settings. The feature remains available for owners who prefer the traditional layout over the swipe-up motion introduced in newer software updates.
To put the Apps shortcut back on a Samsung Galaxy home screen, find an empty space on the home screen and long-press or pinch to open the contextual options menu, according to Engadget. Tapping the gear icon in the bottom right corner opens the settings, where users must scroll down and toggle on the option labeled “Show Apps screen button on Home screen.”
Returning to the home screen reveals the “all apps” button on the right side of the favorite apps dock at the bottom of the page. This button consumes space that could otherwise house an extra app icon in the favorites dock.
Samsung remains the last major manufacturer using Android 3.0 Honeycomb three-button on-screen navigation by default, despite stock Android introducing gesture-based navigation with Android 9.0 Pie in 2018, Engadget reported. Users who prefer gesture controls can switch between the two navigation styles within the device settings menu.
