Navigating Mobile Home Placement in Wexford County: A Guide for Potential Residents
The recent discussion at the Gorey Kilmurckridge Municipal District meeting shed light on the intricacies of mobile home placement in Wexford County. Councillor Mary Farrell’s question highlighted the complexities individuals might encounter when navigating the planning process for mobile homes.
To better understand this process, we spoke with John O’Brien, a Wexford County Council Executive Planner.
"Every case is assessed on its merits," O’Brien explained. "There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and we always aim to work collaboratively with applicants to find a solution that meets both their needs and our planning objectives."
O’Brien emphasized that Wexford County Council takes a nuanced approach to mobile home applications, carefully considering factors such as the proposed location, the size and design of the home, and the potential impact on the surrounding environment.
"We recognize that mobile homes can provide a practical and affordable housing option, particularly for individuals seeking a rural lifestyle," O’Brien added. "Our commitment is to provide clear guidance and support to applicants throughout the planning process."
While existing legislation outlines restrictions regarding mobile home placement, Wexford County Council encourages potential residents to engage proactively.
"We strongly advise anyone considering a mobile home placement to schedule a pre-planning meeting via Microsoft Teams," O’Brien recommended. "During this meeting, they can discuss their individual circumstances and project in detail with a planning officer, ensuring a smoother and more successful experience."
This proactive approach allows applicants to gain valuable insights, address potential concerns, and ultimately increase the likelihood of a positive outcome.
