Cowboys Trade Odighizuwa to 49ers, Thomas to Titans in Roster Shakeup
FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have been active in reshaping their defensive line, agreeing to trades that send defensive tackles Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers and Solomon Thomas to the Tennessee Titans. These moves come after the Cowboys bolstered their defensive tackle position with the acquisitions of Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams.
Odighizuwa Heads to San Francisco for a 2026 Third-Round Pick
The Cowboys are sending Odighizuwa to the 49ers in exchange for a third-round pick (No. 92 overall) in the 2026 NFL Draft. ESPN and Sports Illustrated both reported the details of the trade.
Odighizuwa was originally a third-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021 out of UCLA. He steadily improved his production over his five seasons with the team, starting 76 of 84 regular season games. He recorded 216 total tackles (115 solo), 17 sacks, 81 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. SI.com details his career stats.
Despite signing a four-year, $80 million contract extension in March 2025, Odighizuwa’s production stalled in the 2025 season as he adjusted to a new scheme. The 49ers, who finished last in the NFL in sacks in 2025 with only 20, are hoping Odighizuwa can provide a pass-rushing boost. ESPN highlights the 49ers’ require for pass-rushing facilitate.
Thomas Traded to Tennessee for a Seventh-Round Pick
In a separate transaction, the Cowboys traded Solomon Thomas to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a seventh-round pick. ESPN reported the details of this swap.
Thomas joined the Cowboys on a two-year deal and proved to be a valuable rotational player despite battling injury during the 2025 season. He will reunite with former Cowboys defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, now with the Titans.
Cowboys Gain Cap Space and Draft Capital
These trades free up $4.75 million in cap space for the Cowboys from the Odighizuwa trade and an additional $2.5 million from the Thomas trade, totaling $7.25 million in savings. Sports Illustrated notes the cap implications. The Cowboys as well acquired a third-round pick in the 2026 draft, which they did not previously possess.
With the additions of Clark, Williams, and Otito Ogbonnia, the Cowboys have significantly revamped their defensive tackle room.
