Crown Prince Haakon Visits Son in Prison Amidst Epstein Scandal
Oslo, Norway – Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have visited their son, Marius Borg Høiby, at Oslo Prison, as he awaits trial on multiple charges including rape and drug offenses. The visits come as the Royal Family continues to grapple with the fallout from revelations about Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Recent Prison Visits
The Crown Prince couple were photographed leaving Oslo Prison on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2026, after a one-hour visit with Borg Høiby. This marks at least the second confirmed visit in the past two weeks. Previous visits occurred on February 5th and February 7th, according to reports.
Prison officials confirmed the visits adhered to standard procedures, with the royal couple utilizing regular visiting hours and not requesting special treatment.
Marius Borg Høiby’s Legal Battles
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, is facing 40 charges, including four counts of rape, physical and psychological abuse, and transportation of 3.5 kg of marijuana. He was arrested on February 1st and has been detained for four weeks, until March 2nd. He has admitted to some of the charges but denies the rape allegations, claiming the alleged victims were asleep or incapacitated. Additional charges of reckless behavior and violating a restraining order were added on March 3, 2026, after he admitted to those offenses.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit and the Epstein Controversy
The legal troubles of Borg Høiby coincide with a growing scandal surrounding Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Recent disclosures revealed the Crown Princess was mentioned hundreds of times in newly released Epstein files, including photos found on Epstein’s property and emails detailing their interactions.
The Crown Princess has issued a public apology, expressing “deep regret” for her friendship with Epstein and acknowledging the disappointment she has caused. She initially planned to provide a more detailed explanation but postponed those plans, citing a need for time to collect herself.
Royal Response and Future Engagements
Prince Haakon addressed the press in January, stating the family’s priority is to support Marius and protect their other children. He confirmed that both he and his parents intend to continue with their official duties, including attending the Winter Olympics in Italy.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit has withdrawn from all public duties for the duration of her son’s trial and has taken a private trip, the length of which has not been disclosed. She is not currently scheduled to participate in the upcoming state visit by the Belgian royal couple in March.
