Columbia University Celebrates hispanic Heritage Month
Columbia University Irving Medical Center celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with an event on Haven Plaza on October 9 for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
The Office of Academic and Community Partnerships and the LatinX Employee Resource Group sponsored the event. Attendees learned about Hispanic Heritage Month and the achievements of the Hispanic community.
This year’s national theme was “Collective heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.”
The celebration included conventional Hispanic food like empanadas,arepas,and buñuelos.There was also dancing and music from the Harold O. Levy School 52 marching band. The event encouraged people to support local Hispanic-owned restaurants.
The CUIMC community also held a reception on October 1 at the Faculty Club to recognize National Latino Physician Day. The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Latino Association invited doctors, trainees, and students to connect and build relationships.
