Bandido Suffers Concussion on AEW Return
Just days after his highly anticipated return, Mexican wrestler Bandido has suffered a concussion, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer.
The injury occurred during Friday’s AEW Final Battle event. Bandido made a dramatic entrance, saving Matt Cardona from an attack by Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith. During the chaotic melee, Bandido attempted a high-risk move, a missile dropkick, landing hard on the back of his head after taking out Jericho.
A Potential Setback for a Much-Anticipated Return
“We are told Bandido did suffer a concussion Friday night from landing on the back of his head doing a missile dropkick after the Chris Jericho win over Matt Cardona,” Meltzer wrote in Sunday’s daily update. “Obviously Jericho vs. Bandido was scheduled in an ROH title match at some point. With concussions, you don’t know what it means as far as how long someone will be out of action.”
Despite the jarring landing, Bandido managed to recover and finish off the segment by taking down the rest of The Learning Tree faction.
Bandido’s return had been highly anticipated by wrestling fans. He had been on the sidelines since last summer due to a serious wrist injury that required two surgeries. In the weeks leading up to Final Battle, AEW aired vignettes teasing his long-awaited comeback.
Now, the wrestler’s future plans remain uncertain. The severity and timeframe of his concussion treatment will determine when, and if, he can return to the ring.
