Mon District Health Society Conducts Training on Maternal and Newborn Care

Mon, Nagaland – august 20, 2024 – The District Health Society in mon, Nagaland, commenced a three-day district-level training program on Dakshata for Medical Officers (mos), Community Health Officers (CHOs), and nurses on August 20th at the District Hospital, Mon. The training aims to enhance the quality of maternal and newborn care provided within the district.
Training Objectives and Scope
The Dakshata program focuses on equipping healthcare professionals involved in maternal and newborn care – during and immediately after childbirth – with the necessary skills and knowledge. The curriculum covers a wide range of essential practices, including:
Routine care for mothers and newborns.
Early identification and effective management of potential complications.
Infection prevention protocols.
Implementation of evidence-based practices in childbirth care.
Reinforcing Skills and Reducing Mortality
Dr. Wungyong, DPO (Reproductive & Child Health/Worldwide Immunization Program), welcomed participants and emphasized the training’s goal of reinforcing existing skills and ensuring their effective application in healthcare facilities. He highlighted the program’s focus on periodic performance audits to monitor progress and pinpoint areas needing advancement.The ultimate aim is to reduce both maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity by improving the quality of care during childbirth. Dr. Wungyong encouraged full participation from all attendees, stating it would clarify doubts and contribute to developing competent skilled healthcare professionals.

throughout the three-day training, Dr. Yingngam Wangnaolim, Gynecologist at the District Hospital, and Dr. Chimang Paul,Pediatrician at the District Hospital,will lead sessions covering:
Introduction to the concept of quality of care and the role of the Safe Childbirth Checklist.
Care protocols upon patient admission.
Essential practices immediately before, during, and after delivery.
Essential practices during patient discharge.
