Dallas Renegades Trade Quarterback Luis Perez to St. Louis Battlehawks
On April 21, 2026, the United Football League announced that the Dallas Renegades have traded veteran quarterback Luis Perez to the St. Louis Battlehawks in exchange for offensive tackle Corey Stewart. The move comes after the Renegades’ 3-1 start to the 2026 season, during which Perez has not seen playing time following the offseason decision by new head coach Rick Neuheisel to start Austin Reed at quarterback.
Perez, a eight-year spring football veteran, spent the 2023 through 2025 seasons with the Arlington/Dallas Renegades franchise. He led the team to an XFL Championship in 2023 and was named the XFL Championship Game MVP that same year. Over the past two UFL seasons (2024 and 2025), Perez led the league in passing yards, including a 2025 performance in which he completed 224 of 313 passes for 2,294 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions over 10 games, achieving a league-high 71.6 completion percentage (minimum 50 attempts).
Prior to his time with the Renegades, Perez played for multiple spring football leagues, including the Birmingham Iron (AAF), LA Wildcats and New York Guardians (XFL), Vegas Vipers (XFL), Arlington Renegades (XFL/UFL), The Spring League (Jousters), and New Jersey Generals (USFL). He as well participated in NFL training camps with the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Chargers.
Corey Stewart, the offensive tackle acquired by the Renegades in the trade, was selected by the St. Louis Battlehawks in the 2026 UFL Draft. He has appeared in all four games for the Battlehawks during the 2026 season. Stewart played three seasons at Ball State and his senior year at Purdue, appearing in 44 games with 41 starts.
The trade sends Perez to a St. Louis team currently holding a 2-2 record, sitting just behind the Dallas Renegades in the standings. The Battlehawks have used three quarterbacks this season, with former Troy QB Brandon Silvers leading the group. St. Louis is scheduled to face the Orlando Storm on April 25, 2026, at 6 p.m. CT at Inter&Co Stadium, while Dallas will host the Louisville Kings on April 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. CT at Toyota Stadium.
Perez, nicknamed the “Spring King,” now joins St. Louis in pursuit of a starting role as he continues his professional football career.
