Darragh Creamery: Community to Share Memories of Historic Limerick Hub

Glenroe, County Limerick – Locals are invited to share their memories of the historic Darragh Creamery at a special “Indicate & Share” event this Thursday, March 19th, 2026. The event, hosted by the Glenroe/Ballyorgan Community Council and heritage consultants Abarta Heritage, aims to gather stories and artifacts to help develop an interpretation project celebrating the creamery’s legacy.

A Gathering Place for Eight Decades

Established in 1903 by the Golden Vein Dairy Company, Darragh Creamery quickly became a focal point for the surrounding community. For over eight decades, it served not only as a place of business for local families but as well as a social hub, hosting dances, debates, and showcasing technological advancements in the dairy industry.

Show & Tell Event Details

The free event will take place at Glenroe Hall from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring along any old objects or memorabilia related to the creamery’s 80-year history. This provides an opportunity to celebrate the creamery’s role in local business and community life before the interpretation project’s plan is finalized.

Interpretation Project Aims to Preserve History

The Glenroe / Ballyorgan Community Council partnered with Abarta Heritage to develop an interpretation project for the Darragh Creamery. The “Show & Tell” event is a key component of this project, seeking to collect firsthand accounts and artifacts to enrich the historical record.
