Davao City Responds to Rising Fuel Prices Amidst US-Iran Conflict

Davao City is proactively addressing potential economic disruptions stemming from the escalating tensions between the US and Iran, which are driving up global fuel prices. The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) collaborated with the 21st City Council on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to formulate a unified response to the mounting economic pressure.

Coordination with Key Agencies

The 12th Regular Session of the City Council, presided over by Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, brought together security officials and representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Discussions centered on the energy implications of the Middle East situation and its potential impact on peace and order within Davao City.

Lieutenant Colonel Nolan Raquid, representing acting city director Colonel Mannan Muarip, assured the council that measures are in place to maintain public safety despite the economic challenges.

Recent Fuel Price Increases

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, several oil companies implemented price hikes. Jetti Petroleum, Seaoil, and Unioil increased gasoline prices by ₱8–₱9.70 per liter, diesel by ₱16.80–₱18, and kerosene by ₱21. Petro Gazz, however, continued a ₱5-per-liter rollback on diesel and gasoline, extending the discount to more stations nationwide.

Proactive Inter-Agency Preparations

The DCPO initially convened an inter-agency meeting on March 9 to prepare for potential domestic consequences of the US-Iran and broader Middle East tensions. Colonel Muarip led the session, with participation from Task Force Davao, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the DOE, and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO). All agencies pledged a synchronized response.

“While global tensions may seem distant, their ripple effects can directly impact our local communities,” Muarip stated. “Proactive planning and unity among agencies ensure that Davao City remains resilient in the face of these external challenges.”

Preventing Price Manipulation and Ensuring Supply

The inter-agency body is working with the DOE and the Consumer Protection Division to prevent price manipulation and artificial shortages. Coordination with the CTTMO and Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) aims to ensure preparedness for potential transport disruptions.

Enhanced Security Measures

Task Force Davao and the Coast Guard Station Davao have increased coordination to maintain public order and protect vital installations. LCDR Mark Anthony Tolentino of the PCG and Colonel Alvin Tenorio of Task Force Davao both expressed support for the DCPO’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between maritime and land-based security during times of global uncertainty.

Muarip stressed that preparedness extends beyond operational readiness to include “building trust and transparency” with the public as the situation evolves.
