De La Salle’s Chaden Harvey Shines in Sectional Loss, Continues Impressive Growth

Chicago, IL – De La Salle junior shooting guard Chaden Harvey showcased his versatility and determination in a hard-fought 43-40 loss to Hyde Park in the Class 3A De La Salle Sectional championship game on Friday, March 6, 2026. Harvey tied for team-high scoring honors with nine points, demonstrating his growing impact on the Meteors’ program.

Harvey’s All-Around Performance

Despite the defeat, Harvey’s performance was a bright spot for De La Salle. He didn’t just contribute on the scoreboard, adding six rebounds and two blocked shots, proving to be a physical presence for the Meteors. His drive with 14.9 seconds remaining pulled De La Salle within striking distance, ultimately falling short.

Teammate Recognition

Senior forward Lucas Johnson praised Harvey’s development and impact. “Chaden played great,” Johnson said. “I feel like he always attacks the basket. He always hustles and he does everything you want from somebody. I’ve seen his confidence grow.” Senior forward Remi Edwards also highlighted Harvey’s hustle and all-around ability, stating, “He plays so hard. He can hustle and dribble and really do it all for us. He makes free throws. He makes layups. There’s really not much he can’t do.”

A Season of Growth and Transformation

Harvey’s first season on the varsity team saw him become an indispensable player for De La Salle. Initially timid, he gained confidence throughout the year, fueled by the belief of his teammates and coaches. He transitioned from a point guard at lower levels to effectively playing multiple positions – point guard, shooting guard, and small forward – for the Meteors.

Preparation Through Challenging Competition

De La Salle’s demanding schedule, including Christmas holiday tournaments in Hawaii and Florida, played a crucial role in the team’s preparation. Harvey noted that facing diverse competition from teams in Hawaii, Arizona, Idaho, and Florida helped them prepare for the challenges of Illinois basketball. “Going up against all of those teams and different competition really brought us together,” he said.

Family Influence and Future Aspirations

Harvey’s passion for basketball is rooted in his family. He strives to surpass his older brother, Chaz, who plays for Taylor University, an NAIA program in Upland, Indiana. “I just wanted to beat him every time I was in the gym with him,” Harvey explained. “He played all the great city teams like Kenwood and Simeon. Playing against him just got me better. He made me tougher and able to handle anything.”

Beyond Basketball

Outside of basketball, Harvey enjoys reading nonfiction and playing video games. He embodies a strong work ethic, consistently honing his skills through dedicated practice. “I’ve been playing forever and always felt like I had a special knack for the game,” Harvey said. “I’ve trained for my whole life. I work hard every day, going to the gym and getting up shots. I keep getting better and better.”

Hyde Park advanced to play Leo (27-6) in the UIC Supersectional at Credit Union 1 Arena on Monday.
