Federal Budget Deficit projected to Worsen Significantly

Publication Date: 2025/09/22 14:47:48

The federal budget deficit is continuing to expand, according to the latest estimates from the monitoring committee. The projected deficit for the current year has increased to over €26.5 billion, representing 4.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).This figure is a ample revision, exceeding the July estimate by more than €400 million.

If current fiscal policies remain unchanged, the deficit is forecast to climb to over €39 billion by the end of the current government’s term, equivalent to 5.5% of GDP. This projected increase raises concerns about long-term fiscal sustainability and potential impacts on economic growth. Further analysis will be required to determine the underlying factors contributing to this widening deficit and to evaluate potential mitigation strategies.
