Delhi district court lawyers continue strike over alleged assault

Delhi lawyers across all seven district courts will continue their strike on Wednesday and Thursday following an alleged assault on advocate Lalit Bansal at the Karkardooma Court complex in East Delhi and subsequent police intimidation, Navabharat reported.

District Court Strike And Protests In Delhi

The coordinated boycott of judicial work stems from police inaction against the initial attackers and aggressive conduct by law enforcement officers toward bar association leaders. According to Navabharat, advocate Lalit Bansal sustained severe injuries requiring numerous stitches on his head during the assault. When Shahdara Bar Association representatives approached senior police officials, authorities registered a first information report but allegedly released the suspects.

The situation escalated when Shahdara Bar Secretary Narveer Dabas and other members visited the police station. Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha allegedly threatened the delegation with a pistol and subsequently filed a case against the bar officials. In response, lawyers gathered on Tuesday to march toward the Joint Commissioner of Police office in the Eastern Range to demand action against the concerned officers, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha and SHO Arun Kumar.

Coordination Committee Boycott And March Details

The Coordination Committee of Delhi District Bar Associations announced that the strike will persist until demands are met. Neeraj, chairman of the coordination committee, stated in an official release that attorneys will abstain from all court proceedings and stage demonstrations outside their respective district court gates on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the protest escalates as lawyers assemble outside the Patiala House Court before launching a march toward Police Headquarters.
