Delhi Metro’s Pink Line: Soorghat Station Remains Unopened Due to Subway Integration
New Delhi: Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, now fully operational as the city’s first “ring” metro line, opened ten new stations on Sunday, March 8, 2026. However, the Soorghat Station, located in north Delhi near Wazirabad, remains non-operational due to ongoing integration operate with a planned Public Works Department (PWD) subway.
Delayed Access for Commuters
Trains currently pass through the Soorghat Station without halting, with announcements informing passengers of the temporary closure. The station’s entrances and exits are designed to connect via a subway that is still under construction, preventing passenger access for the time being. Locals express frustration with the delay, despite the station’s proximity to their homes.
PWD Subway Integration
According to Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of corporate communications at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the decision to delay the opening of Soorghat Station is directly linked to its integration with a PWD subway. The integration is planned at two levels: an elevated flyover (already completed for one-way traffic) and the underground subway for traffic in the opposite direction. Hindustan Times reports that the DMRC is now undertaking the construction of the subway.
Project Details and Timeline
The newly inaugurated Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor is a 12.3 km extension of the Pink Line, while the Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park section spans 9.9 km. These additions bring the total length of the Delhi Metro network to over 400 kilometers. The DMRC expects to complete the subway and open Soorghat Station to passengers by the end of 2026.
