Delhi-NCR Braces for Rainfall: IMD Issues Weather Alert
Delhi and its surrounding regions are anticipating a respite from the intense summer heat as the India meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for rainfall. This forecast signals a notable shift in weather patterns for the region, offering much-needed relief to residents who have recently endured soaring temperatures.
Current Conditions and Temperature Trends
As of Wednesday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 29.6°C and a maximum of 36.1°C. While still warm, these figures represent a noticeable decrease from the peak temperatures experienced earlier in the year, which reached as high as 45°C. This recent heatwave, a common occurence in the North Indian plains during June, had prompted concerns about heatstroke and dehydration.
Regional Rainfall Forecast
The anticipated rainfall isn’t limited to Delhi. The IMD’s latest update, shared via social media platform X, indicates a high probability of “Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall” across a broad swathe of northern and western India. This includes states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttar pradesh, alongside coastal karnataka, Kerala, and parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Specifically, the forecast extends from June 25th to July 1st for Punjab,Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh, and through June 29th for Rajasthan.
Delhi’s Detailed Weather Outlook
According to the IMD’s press release, Delhi is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and possible thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph on June 25th. Maximum temperatures are predicted to fall within the 33-35°C range, a drop of 2-4°C below the seasonal average. wind patterns will initially be southeasterly at less than 20 kmph, increasing to 20-25 kmph during the evening and night.
impact on the National Capital Region
The impact of this weather system will extend beyond Delhi itself, encompassing the entire National Capital Region (NCR). Cities like Ghaziabad,Noida,Gurgaon, and Faridabad are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. This widespread precipitation is expected to significantly improve air quality and lower overall temperatures across the region.
A Welcome Change
The arrival of the monsoon season, even in its early stages, is a crucial progress for India’s agricultural sector and overall water resources. While the initial heatwave presented challenges, the forecast for sustained rainfall offers a positive outlook for the coming weeks, promising a more pleasant and sustainable habitat for the millions residing in North India.
