DePaul Softball Wraps Up Jacksonville Tournament with Split

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – DePaul softball concluded its participation in the Jacksonville Tournament on Sunday, splitting a pair of games with Jacksonville. The Blue Demons showcased offensive prowess, led by Morgan Rogers, who continued her strong performance at the plate and Lydia Ettema, who also delivered a notable performance.

Game 1: DePaul 5, Jacksonville 1

Resuming a game suspended on Friday due to weather, DePaul secured a 5-1 victory over Jacksonville. Hannah Messer entered the game in relief and effectively shut down Jacksonville’s offense, earning the start in the tournament finale. Messer worked 4.0 innings, supported by 1.0 inning each from Kelly Greene and Gwen Baker.

DePaul (9-12) reignited its offense with Rogers leading off with a double, followed by an RBI double from Ettema to extend the lead to 5-1. Addy Poe and Bibianna Rodriguez also contributed with base hits in the seventh inning.

Game 2: DePaul 3, Jacksonville 5

The second game saw Jacksonville (11-9) take an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. DePaul responded in the third, with Emersyn Coulter driving in an RBI single and Chelsea Parker adding a sacrifice fly to give the Blue Demons a 2-1 advantage.

Jacksonville quickly regained the lead with a two-run home run, extending their advantage to 3-2. They added another run in the fourth, making it 4-2. DePaul attempted a comeback in the fifth, with Maya Wondaal drawing a walk and Rogers doubling to put runners in scoring position. Brooke Cwick’s sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 4-3, and Ettema followed with a single. However, DePaul was unable to capitalize, and Jacksonville sealed the 5-3 win with an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
