Exmouth Couple’s Tragic Deaths Spark Community Mourning and Fundraising Effort
The community of Exmouth, Devon, is reeling from the loss of Gary and Heidi Veacock, a beloved couple who passed away within weeks of each other. Their deaths have prompted an outpouring of grief and a fundraising campaign to support their daughters, Amber and Mia.
Gary Veacock: A Life of Service and Vitality
Gary Veacock, a former Royal Marine officer, died unexpectedly on January 12, 2026, from undiagnosed high blood pressure. He was described by his daughter, Amber, as “truly larger than life – full of love, laughter, and warmth” and an “incredible husband and amazing dad.”
Beyond his military service, Gary was actively involved in charitable work. He was instrumental in launching the Royal Free Charity Abseil, an event that raised funds for patients and staff at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The charity highlighted his leadership and passion for the cause. He likewise played football for Topsham Town FC, who expressed their sadness at his passing.
Heidi Veacock: A Talented Pastry Chef and Beloved Figure
Just two weeks after Gary’s funeral, held at Lympstone Training Camp in Devon, Heidi Veacock passed away on March 1, 2026, after a long battle with neuroendocrine cancer and carcinoid disease. She was a well-known and talented pastry chef, bringing joy to those around her.
Amber Veacock shared that her mother’s passing was unexpected so soon after her father’s death, adding, “We are incredibly grateful for all the kindness and support we have received during this unbelievably demanding time.”
Community Support and Fundraising
Friends and family have established a GoFundMe page to support Amber and Mia Veacock. As of March 6, 2026, the fundraiser has received 532 donations, totaling £28,777. Funds will be split equally between the sisters to help with funeral costs and provide them with the means to support themselves during this challenging time. The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers.
The fundraiser reflects on the couple’s love, stating that after their passing, “the birds sang and the sun broke through.”
