Diana Leah Launches DYYA Solo Project with “Holy Water”
DELAIN singer Diana Leah has embarked on a new musical journey with the launch of her solo project, DYYA, releasing the official music video for her debut single, “Holy Water.” The song, written and performed by DYYA, was produced, mixed, and mastered by Andrea Fusini.
A New Creative Universe
Diana Leah, who joined DELAIN in 2022 as the replacement for Charlotte Wessels, is stepping into a new creative space with DYYA. She previously expressed a lifelong desire to sing in a metal band, having explored rock music earlier in her career but ultimately seeking the heavier sound she loved.
From Instagram Audition to DELAIN and Beyond
Leah’s path to becoming the vocalist for the Dutch metal act DELAIN was unconventional. She simply commented on their Instagram page expressing her interest, leading to an email from keyboardist and founder Martijn Westerholt and an eventual audition. Her first album with DELAIN, “Dark Waters,” was released in February 2023.
Musical Influences
Leah’s musical journey began with influences like Evanescence and Linkin Park, and Avril Lavigne, evolving into a fascination with symphonic metal bands such as Nightwish and Within Temptation. She has described finding a sense of belonging and resonance within the cinematic and epic soundscapes of the genre. She recalled being particularly inspired by vocalists like Amy Lee of Evanescence.
International Roots
Born in Romania, in Alba Iulia, Transylvania, Leah’s life has been marked by international moves. She lived in Italy for approximately ten years, then spent five years in Ottawa, Canada, before returning to Italy, where she currently resides near Torino.
DELAIN’s Support
DELAIN shared the “Holy Water” music video on Instagram, expressing their excitement and support for Leah’s new project, stating that the single “sounds amazing.”
