Twink, a close friend and fellow entertainer, fondly remembered Rock as “a great old buddy” who “was adored by his family.” She recalled his unwavering professionalism, saying, “He turned up on time, he rehearsed, he was always impeccably groomed. He had a killer voice, he had a dynamic stage personality and most of all, he was what everybody needs, he was a crowd-pleaser.”

Twink believes Rock’s dedication to his craft, exemplified by his professional demeanor, allowed him to enjoy sustained success. She shared a saying from Las Vegas: “Their fame walks out before they do.” According to Twink, “That was Dickie Rock, everywhere he went, his fame went out before him.”

While Rock achieved immense popularity in Ireland, Twink felt he could have reached international stardom had the right infrastructure been in place during his career.

A Life of Music and Friendship

Twink fondly recounted their collaborations, including a memorable show with Red Hurley in Portmarnock. She emphasized the strong bond their families shared, noting that they “never lost touch” because “Dickie’s wife Judy and the kids” were such close friends.

Twink described Judy as the “love of Dickie’s life,” and said his world was “devastated” after her passing.

For Twink, Rock’s passing marks the end of an era. She expresses the bittersweet reality of aging: “there’s a price to be paid for living longer, in that you have to watch all your beloved friends and colleagues leave.” She concludes her tribute with a poignant reflection: “Life is a strange old thing and saying goodbye to people… never gets any easier.”
