Indonesia Seeks Clarity on Blue Helmet Apply for Gaza Peacekeepers, Questions Security Force Capacity
Jakarta, Indonesia – Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dino Patti Djalal has called on the Indonesian government to clarify whether Indonesian peacekeepers deployed to Gaza, Palestine, will adhere to the standard practice of wearing blue helmets, traditionally used by United Nations (UN) peacekeeping forces. Djalal also raised concerns regarding the capacity of the Palestinian Security Force and the challenges facing the Peace Council’s efforts to stabilize the region.
Blue Helmet Protocol Under Scrutiny
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, February 20, 2026, Djalal questioned the government’s plans for the appearance of Indonesian peacekeepers. “I am of the view that there needs to be clarity from the government whether Indonesian peacekeepers in Gaza will use blue helmets (blue helmet) as usual for UN peacekeepers,” he wrote according to reports. The blue color of UN peacekeeper helmets and berets symbolizes peace and their mandate to maintain it as stated on the official UN website.
Djalal emphasized that any deviation from the standard blue helmet protocol would require public explanation.
Concerns Over Palestinian Security Force Capacity
Beyond the issue of peacekeeping appearance, Djalal highlighted challenges within the Peace Council’s operational framework. He specifically questioned the readiness of the Palestinian Security Force, which is slated to be trained by Jordan and Egypt, to effectively maintain security in Gaza.
“The wheels of the security aspect have started to turn with the formation of the Palestinian Security Force and the International Stabilization Force. However, the challenges in the field, especially regarding demilitarization, are still exceptionally serious,” Djalal stated.
Indonesia’s Commitment to the International Stabilization Force (ISF)
President Prabowo Subianto recently announced Indonesia’s commitment to contribute a substantial number of troops – up to 8,000 or more if necessary – to the International Stabilization Force (ISF) as reported by MinaNews. This commitment is based on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2803, passed on November 17, 2025, which established the ISF’s mandate to secure the border area and facilitate demilitarization in the Gaza Strip.
The ISF will operate under the auspices of the Peace Council formed by US President Donald Trump.
Looking Ahead
Indonesia’s participation in the Peace Council and the ISF represents a significant diplomatic and security undertaking. Continued clarity regarding operational details, such as the use of blue helmets and a realistic assessment of the challenges facing the Palestinian Security Force will be crucial to the success of these efforts.
