Dodgers Announce World Series Roster: Graterol and Vesia Return
The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially unveiled their 26-man roster for the 2023 World Series, set to begin tonight against the New York Yankees. While 23 players from the NLCS roster remain, three key additions have been made.
Key Additions and Departures
Right-handed pitcher Brusdar Graterol, left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia, and infielder Miguel Rojas have joined the World Series roster. They replace right-handed pitchers Evan Phillips and Edgardo Henriquez, and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier.
Rojas, who battled a partially torn adductor muscle throughout the second half of the season, returns after sitting out the NLCS. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed his intention to use Rojas, along with a flexible starting nine of Tommy Edman, Chris Taylor, and Enrique Hernandez, providing the Dodgers with valuable offensive and defensive depth.
Graterol and Vesia’s Impact
The returns of Graterol and Vesia are significant boosts for the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Graterol, known for his impressive stuff, was plagued by injuries throughout the season but has a phenomenal postseason track record. Vesia has emerged as a reliable, lefty reliever, providing essential balance to the bullpen.
Phillips’ Absence
Evan Phillips, who struggled at times after a strong start to the season, was the surprise omission. Reports suggest arm fatigue and tightness were contributing factors in Phillips’ exclusion. Although his absence is felt, the Dodgers prioritize long-term health and give Graterol and Vesia a chance to shine.
