Donald Trump’s Sharp Message to American Olympian

MILAN/WASHINGTON – The Winter Olympic Games in Italy started really hard for the American team. Instead of the joy of the performances, the spotlight was on a political skirmish between President Donald Trump and representatives of the United States. Trump did not put a napkin in front of his mouth and called one of the skiers a total loser.

The press conference of freestyle skier Hunter Hess became the detonator. When asked what it’s like to represent the US at a time of political unrest and raids against immigrants, he answered honestly – he struggles internally with “mixed emotions”. “Just because I wear a flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the US,” Hess pointed out.

The reaction from the White House was swift and harsh. Donald Trump did not spare the athlete on his social network Truth Social. He called him a “real loser” and indicated that if he had a problem with the representation of his country, he had nothing to look for in the team. “Very hard to root for someone like that,” the president wrote.

Trump is not the only one who is upset by the skier’s comments. Republican congressman Tim Burchett told the athlete that he should “shut up and go play in the snow.” However, Hess defends himself and says that he does not reject the country as such, but rather represents his family, friends and the good things that remain in America under the jersey.

However, the situation in the American camp is tense. It is not only Hess who talks about discomfort. Olympic champion Chris Lillis also joined in, admitting that he is devastated by the current events in his homeland and, according to him, the US should pay more attention to human rights.

Squeals in the audience and death threats

Americans feel political pressure at every turn. Vice President JD Vance, who came to the opening ceremony of the games in Milan, had to listen to the collective boos and squeals of tens of thousands of spectators.

Figure skater Amber Glenn fared even worse. Due to the wave of hateful reactions and death threats from opponents of the LGBTQ community, she preferred to completely leave social networks. The American Olympic Committee has already confirmed that attacks on athletes are increasing and that the police must supervise their safety in Italy.
