Google Celebrates Women’s Impact with New Film and Product Features

This month, Google is honoring International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month by celebrating the achievements of women across its products and platforms. A central part of this celebration is a new documentary, “The Art of Possible,” which tells the story of Dr. Marian Rogers Croak, a pioneering figure in STEM and a key inventor of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology.

“The Art of Possible” – A Story of Innovation

“The Art of Possible” explores the remarkable journey of Dr. Marian Croak, highlighting her contributions as a trailblazer for women and Black people in STEM. Her work has been foundational to technologies used globally, from her early patents in VoIP to her current leadership role at Google, focusing on Human Centered AI and Machine Learning. The film uniquely utilizes Google’s AI tools – Veo3 and Nano Banana, accessed through the product Flow – to visualize aspects of her story where historical footage is unavailable, ensuring her legacy is preserved in an innovative way. Dr. Croak’s story underscores the idea that current realities are not fixed and can be changed through innovation and determination.

Dr. Marian Croak: A Legacy of Innovation

Dr. Marian Croak’s early interest in STEM was fostered by her father, who provided her with a chemistry set as a child. She attended Princeton University and earned her Ph.D. From Southern California, focusing on quantitative analysis and social psychology. Throughout her 30-year career at Bell Labs (now AT&T Labs), she consistently pursued ideas with the potential to positively impact people’s lives. Recognizing the transformative potential of the internet, she championed IP as the future of communications, ultimately leading to the development of VoIP technology. VirtualPBX highlights that without her work, remote work would be significantly more challenging.

Google’s initiatives this month aim to elevate the voices and work of women not only during Women’s History Month but throughout the year.
