Man Arrested After Two-Hour Standoff in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin – Gardai (Irish police) arrested a man following a two-hour standoff at a residential property in Dun Laoghaire on Monday, February 16, 2026. The incident began when the man was observed on the roof of a property allegedly in possession of fireworks.

Incident Details

According to reports, the man was allegedly throwing tiles from the roof at Gardai officers who responded to the scene. The Emergency Response Unit was deployed, and numerous videos circulated online showing a significant Garda presence in the housing estate. Officers were eventually able to safely remove the man from the roof and take him into custody.

Garda Statement

An Garda Siochana released a statement confirming the arrest: “Gardai arrested a man in relation to an incident of criminal damage at a residential premises in Dun Laoghaire this morning, Monday, February 16.” The man is currently being detained at a Garda Station in South Dublin, and investigations are ongoing.
