e/MTIC Ushers in New Leadership to Accelerate Healthcare Solutions
The healthcare sector faces important hurdles. An aging population and critical staff shortages are straining the system, demanding innovative solutions.Eindhoven Medtech Innovation Centre (e/MTIC) has a clear mission: to drive healthcare forward through research and innovation, and to get solutions from the lab to patients faster. A leadership change is underway at e/MTIC. After years of dedicated service, Kees van der Klauw and Franklin Schuling are stepping down, with Noortje Bax and Beatrijs van der Hout ready to take the helm.
About e/MTIC
e/MTIC is a powerful collaboration. It brings together Eindhoven University of Technology, philips, two leading clinical hospitals – Catharina Hospital and Máxima MC – and Kempenhaeghe,a renowned center for epilepsy and sleep disorders.Since its launch seven years ago, over a hundred PhD students have fueled research and innovation. This work has generated numerous patents and a thriving innovation ecosystem, supported by around 75 employees. Crucially, the directors of all partner organizations are actively involved in the partnership.
Looking Back on Seven Years of e/MTIC
e/MTIC was founded on the idea that innovation thrives when it’s close to real-world clinical practice. Healthcare and research are frequently enough fragmented, and access to data is frequently limited to individual hospitals. e/MTIC offers a local model that breaks down these barriers within the region. This strategic alliance between academic institutions, hospitals, and Philips creates a unique environment where clinical needs, research, and technology converge quickly.Franklin Schuling, a founding father of e/MTIC, reflects on the past few years: “What impresses me most is the collaborative spirit. I’m incredibly proud of the clinicians, specialists, PhD students, and Philips employees who have dedicated themselves to e/MTIC.”
The center has taken significant steps to streamline the innovation process. It’s created dedicated pathways for testing and validating new technologies within the hospital setting, accelerating the time it takes to bring promising solutions to patients. This focus on practical request distinguishes e/MTIC from more conventional research environments.
A Smooth Transition and Future focus
The transition to new leadership is designed to be seamless. Noortje Bax and beatrijs van der Hout have been closely involved with e/MTIC for some time, understanding its core values and strategic goals. Thay are committed to building on the strong foundation laid by their predecessors. “We want to further strengthen the collaboration between our partners and expand our impact on healthcare,” says Noortje Bax. Beatrijs van der Hout adds, “We see opportunities to scale up prosperous innovations and to address new challenges in areas like personalized medicine and digital health.”
e/MTIC’s future looks bright. By continuing to foster collaboration and focus on practical solutions, it’s poised to play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare in the region and beyond. The center remains dedicated to its mission: delivering better healthcare through cutting-edge research and innovation.
