El Mencho: Death of Jalisco Cartel Leader Sparks Violence Across Mexico
The death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), in a military operation on February 22, 2026, has triggered a wave of violence across multiple Mexican states. Mexican Defence Secretary Ricardo Trevilla explained that authorities tracked one of Oseguera Cervantes’s partners to a house in Tapalpa, approximately 130km from Guadalajara. The woman met with Oseguera Cervantes on Saturday and departed, leaving him with his security detail.
