Latvian Electric Vehicle Testing Reveals Rapid Charging Improvements
Electric vehicle charging speeds in Latvia have advanced to the point where recharging a battery takes about as long as a standard coffee break, according to findings published by lasi.lv. The automotive program “Tavs Auto TV” reported that high-power direct current fast chargers are now widely available outside Riga, shifting the primary focus of long-distance EV travel from maximum driving range to replenishment speed.
High-Performance Models and Ultra-Fast Charging Times
Top-tier electric vehicles utilizing 800-volt electrical architectures can restore energy reserves rapidly when connected to compatible high-output charging stations. For instance, the XPENG G7+ features a maximum direct current charging capacity of 446 kW, allowing its battery to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in approximately 10 minutes, as detailed by lasi.lv. Comparable performance capabilities are available in specific models from ZEEKR and Mercedes-Benz.
Budget and Mid-Range EV Test Results
Impressive charging speeds are no longer restricted to luxury vehicles, as demonstrated during the “Latvijas e-auto” test sessions conducted in late September by a panel evaluating 33 competing electric cars. Volkswagen ID. Polo and CUPRA Raval models absorbed an average of 18 kWh of electrical energy within a 10-minute window, providing sufficient range for roughly 100 kilometers of driving. Both economy models feature a maximum direct current charging capacity of 130 kW. Meanwhile, mid-range contenders Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra replenished their battery energy reserves by 13 kWh and 15 kWh respectively in under 10 minutes at an Ignitis ON charging station.
