Blindscan: The Convenient Way to Find Stations

Enigma receivers offer many options for satellite reception

Blindscan is the most convenient station search function available. You don’t need to worry about transmission parameters. Enigma boxes, in particular, offer a special level of comfort that makes the scan results even more reliable. This guide details how to use it with the OpenATV operating interface.

During a blind scan, the receiver reacts to all signals it perceives, evaluates them – including all transmission parameters – and adds all programs from the received data stream to the station list.

Because the receiver doesn’t focus on which satellite it’s aimed at, it saves everything with sufficient signal strength. This means it captures not only the transponders of the targeted satellite, but also those of neighboring satellites within the antenna’s range.

With the “Filter out adjacent satellites” function, satellite transponders that are up to three degrees away are suppressed during the blind scan

Densely Occupied Orbit

In the early days of satellite television, 3 degrees was the minimum distance between satellite positions. However, as more and more satellites were launched into geostationary orbit, this spacing became insufficient.
