eSignature App Support Shifts: A Focus on Modernization

The Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC), the operator of the state-owned mobile operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), has announced a significant change in its eSignature mobile app support strategy. Starting February 1, 2025, users of eSignature apps like epemas mobile, Eparakstslv, and Eid scan on Android 8 and iOS 13 or older operating systems will no longer receive updates or support.

This decision, while impacting less than 1% of eSignature mobile users, reflects a broader trend in the tech industry to prioritize newer, more secure platforms. The LVRTC cites resource allocation and efficiency as key drivers behind this move.

"Maintaining support for outdated systems is resource-intensive," explains Dr. Jānis Jansons, a digital conversion expert. "The LVRTC’s data shows a negligible user base on these older systems, making it a logical step to focus resources on newer platforms that benefit the majority of users."

While existing versions of the apps will continue to function, users on older operating systems will miss out on new features, security updates, and the latest functionalities.

This shift highlights the importance of device upgrades in staying connected in an increasingly digital world.

"While upgrading might seem daunting, it’s crucial to ensure your devices are secure and equipped with the latest tools," advises Dr. Jansons. "Staying on outdated systems poses significant risks, including vulnerability to security threats and limited functionality."

Despite this shift, the LVRTC’s 2023 financial performance paints a picture of continued growth and investment in innovation. With a 2.3% increase in turnover and a 2.9x jump in profit, the organization is well-positioned to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

"The LVRTC’s commitment to innovation is evident in their strategic decisions," notes Dr. Jansons. "Reallocating resources from legacy systems allows them to develop advanced solutions and solidify Latvia’s position as a leader in digital transformation."

This decision sets a precedent for other organizations, demonstrating the importance of adapting to technological advancements and prioritizing secure, efficient solutions for the evolving digital landscape.
