Ratajski Seals Third European Tour Crown
A Rollercoaster Final in Leverkusen
Ratajski initially dominated the final, racing to a 4-1 lead against his Dutch opponent. Wattimena, however, competing in his first European Tour final, responded by winning five consecutive legs to flip the script, moving 6-4 ahead. Ratajski steadied himself, winning the final four legs to clinch the trophy.
“It was a close game,” Ratajski said following the match. “Jermaine played very well, and I’m really happy that I survived it.”
Form and Fatigue on the PDC Circuit
Ratajski’s route to the final included a notable 6-4 victory over the reigning European Darts Open champion, Nathan Aspinall, in the quarter-finals. His performance in Leverkusen maintained his perfect record in professional tour finals, reinforcing his status as a consistent contender.
“I’m very happy with that,” Wattimena stated. “It was a magic day. I missed some chances, but he missed some chances as well, so I think it’s a fair result.”
Shifting Sands in the Tournament Bracket
The tournament structure saw high-profile exits, with top-seeded players falling in the earlier rounds. Damon Heta, who defeated Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the third round, eventually bowed out to Wattimena in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Sebastian Bialecki reached the final four before falling to Ratajski.
Blackpool Beckons for the World Matchplay
The Professional Darts Corporation season now turns to the Betfred World Matchplay at the historic Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
In addition to the main event, the fifth staging of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay will feature eight top-ranked female players competing for the title currently held by Lisa Ashton.
