Exercise with Pleasure and Relaxation: New Program for People with Early Dementia
The Help Anders Foundation and sports teacher Phemia de Boer look ahead to 2026 with confidence and enthusiasm. Thanks to financial support from ZonMw, they can offer a special exercise program in the coming year for people living at home and dealing with early dementia.
Living with dementia often brings confusing, yet recognizable situations. daily actions can unexpectedly become difficult, and small things can turn into important challenges. Concurrently, the number of people living at home with dementia is increasing, while the availability of informal caregivers and healthcare professionals is under pressure. This creates increased strain both nationally and locally.
Exercise with pleasure and Relaxation
To address this growing need, the Help Anders Foundation and Phemia de Boer will offer accessible and enjoyable exercise classes in 2026. The focus extends beyond physical exercise, emphasizing fun, shared experiences, and maintaining social connections. The classes are designed for individuals with early memory problems and will be led by a qualified sports teacher. assistive equipment, such as chair bicycles, will be available as needed.
Exercise plays a vital role in delaying the effects of dementia and contributes to both physical and mental well-being. The lessons are therefore geared towards staying active safely, responsibly, and, above all, pleasantly.
