Mercedes Dominates Qualifying

Russell achieved a lap time of 1:18.518, finishing 0.293 seconds ahead of Antonelli. This marks Mercedes’ first front-row lockout since the 2024 British Grand Prix. The strong performance comes amidst significant discussion surrounding the modern 2026 hybrid cars and their impact on the sport.

Discontent with New Regulations

Reigning champion Lando Norris expressed his disappointment with the new hybrid cars, stating after Saturday’s qualifying session that “we’ve come from the best cars ever made in Formula 1 and the nicest to drive to probably the worst.” Other drivers echoed similar concerns regarding the handling and performance of the new generation of Formula 1 vehicles.

Verstappen’s Difficult Session
