Synopsis
The film centers on Robert Zucchini, a celebrated actor known for his captivating performances in a stage present dedicated to Victor Hugo. Whereas embodying Hugo’s passion for literature on stage, Robert leads a more subdued life offstage. His carefully constructed routine is disrupted by the unexpected return of his estranged daughter, Lisbeth, following the death of her mother.
As Robert attempts to connect with Lisbeth, he finds himself grappling with the legacy of Victor Hugo and his own ability to form genuine emotional bonds. The film explores whether he will remain in the shadow of the literary giant or embrace his own feelings and build a relationship with his daughter.

The film is directed by Pascal Bonitzer and based on a screenplay by the late Sophie Fillières, who began working on the project in 2020 before her passing in 2023. Her children oversaw the editing process and selected Bonitzer as the director. The film is produced by CG Cinema and Assise Production.
