FedEx and Feed the Children Guatemala Launch Third Consecutive Hygiene Initiative
FedEx and Feed the Children, a global nonprofit focused on ending child hunger, have partnered for the third consecutive year to distribute hygiene kits to children in Palencia and Sololá, Guatemala, as part of the “Clean Futures Alliance” program, according to a May 2023 event at FedEx’s Guatemala City office.
What is the Clean Futures Alliance?
The Clean Futures Alliance, led by Feed the Children, focuses on improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) resources in underserved communities. The initiative includes school-based interventions and educational materials to foster long-term health habits, according to the organization’s website.
How Does the Partnership Operate?
The collaboration involves FedEx employees volunteering to prepare hygiene kits for children and families. Jorge Mario Mendoza, FedEx’s country manager in Guatemala, stated the partnership aligns with FedEx Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. “Over three years, we’ve supported thousands of children and families with essential needs,” he said.

Why Does WASH Matter for Child Health?
Access to proper hygiene resources reduces illness and improves school attendance, according to Ignacio Girón, regional director for Central America at Feed the Children. “Adequate hygiene fosters health, confidence, and educational opportunities,” he noted. The program targets regions where 28% of households lack reliable access to clean water, per 2022 data from Guatemala’s Ministry of Health.
What Are the Next Steps for the Initiative?
Feed the Children and FedEx plan to expand the program to additional municipalities in 2024. Donations and volunteer opportunities are available through feedthechildren.org and fedexcares.com.
