Ferrari Unveils Amalfi Spider: A New Open-Top V8 Masterpiece
Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari has expanded its lineup with the introduction of the Amalfi Spider, a convertible version of the recently launched Amalfi coupe. The new model offers an open-air driving experience while retaining the performance and luxury associated with the Ferrari brand.
Design and Aesthetics
The Amalfi Spider is designed to be visually striking whether its roof is up or down. Ferrari’s design studio focused on maintaining the coupe’s sleek silhouette with the top closed, while creating an expressive and bold appearance when the roof is lowered. The body lines are sculpted to play with light and shadow, emphasizing the car’s modern forms.
The retractable soft top is a key feature, constructed with five layers in a “sandwich” structure to provide sound insulation and reduce cabin noise. Customers can personalize their vehicle with four fabric color options and two technical material choices. The roof fabric pattern can also be extended to other exterior elements for a cohesive design.
Aerodynamics and Handling
Ferrari engineers have addressed the challenges of open-top driving with an active rear anti-wing. This wing automatically adjusts based on speed, providing up to 110 kg of downforce at 250 km/h to enhance stability. A wind deflector integrated into the rear seat backrests minimizes turbulence in the cabin, improving comfort for occupants.
Performance and Technology
At the heart of the Amalfi Spider is a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 631 horsepower. Engineers have incorporated lighter components and an improved cooling system to optimize performance. Despite being approximately 80 kilograms heavier than the coupe, the convertible maintains excellent dynamics and handling.
The car features an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, sourced from the SF90 Stradale hybrid model. Advanced driver-assistance systems, including Side Slip Control 6.1, manage steering and torque distribution. Drivers can select from five driving modes – Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, and ESC-Off – using the “Manettino” switch on the steering wheel, tailoring the car’s behavior to their preferences.
Pricing and Availability
The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is priced starting at around €270,000, a premium over the coupe’s €240,000 price tag, reflecting the complexity of the retractable roof mechanism and associated body reinforcements. Orders are currently being accepted, with first deliveries expected in early 2027.
The Amalfi Spider is expected to appeal to both driving enthusiasts and collectors, continuing Ferrari’s tradition of desirable open-top models.
