SGAE Foundation announces Finalists for 25th New Authorship Awards at Sitges Film Festival

The SGAE foundation through the Territorial Council of SGAE in Catalunya has announced the finalist works of the 25th edition of The New Authorship SGAE Awards, celebrated in collaboration with the 58 Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025 (time to be confirmed), the Cinema Prado de Sitges will host a screening of the works competing for Best Direction, Best Script, and Best Original Music, integrated into the New Visions section of the festival.

This edition marks a meaningful milestone, as the SGAE New Authorship Awards celebrate 25 years of discovering and promoting emerging talent in the audiovisual field, reaffirming their commitment to contemporary creation and the dissemination of productions from universities and film schools in Catalonia.

This year’s jury comprises leading industry professionals: director and screenwriter Belén Funes, writer and screenwriter Laia Aguilar, and film and television composer Francesc Gener. They were responsible for evaluating the artistic quality, originality, and potential of the finalist works and selecting the winners.

A total of 9 Finalist works will be showcased: 5 fiction, 3 animation, and 1 documentary, representing 8 educational centers. this year’s call received 41 works from 18 universities and film schools, including 29 fiction, 7 animation, and 5 documentaries. Notably, 13 were shot in Catalan and 25 featured original music, reflecting the diversity and creative wealth of the new generation of audiovisual authors.

The finalist works to be screened at the festival, providing a platform for young filmmakers to present their creations to the public, are as follows:

Escola de Cinema Band apart

Julia Julia (14 min 06 s – fiction). Director: María andújar Nieto. screenplay: María Andújar Nieto and Alexandre kröner. Original Music: Gabriel Cassaro. Synopsis: Julia, an actress experiencing a personal and professional crisis, struggles to find her place in the world as her relationship with her boyfriend deteriorates. Seeking attention, she disguises herself with a wig and adopts a new identity. However, this game with her image becomes perilous, blurring the lines between Julia and her alter ego, leading her to question her true self.
