SUNRISE, FL – Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell has been fined $5,000 USD by the National Hockey League (NHL) for a high-sticking incident during a recent game against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 24-year-old Finnish player was penalized for a hazardous play involving a high stick directed at Canadiens forward Alexandre Texier. The incident occurred during the second period of the January 9th match, which Montreal ultimately won 6-2.
Lundell received a double minor penalty for the infraction. While the Canadiens failed to capitalize on the ensuing power play, Texier later scored two goals, completing a hat trick.
The NHL announced that the fine will be paid to the Players’ Emergency Relief Fund, representing the maximum allowable amount for this type of offense. lundell is also currently under consideration for a spot on Finland’s roster for the upcoming February Olympic tournament in Milan.
