Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unretires, Signs with CSI Sports for Boxing Return

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Has announced he is coming out of retirement once again, signing an exclusive agreement with CSI Sports/Fight Sports to resume his professional boxing career. The move follows a planned exhibition bout against Mike Tyson in Spring 2026.

Mayweather’s Return and CSI Sports Partnership

The 50-0 undefeated boxer revealed his decision to unretire in a statement, emphasizing his continued ability to generate significant revenue and audience engagement. “I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing – from my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards – no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event – then my events,” Mayweather said. ESPN reports.

CSI Sports/Fight Sports will serve as Mayweather’s promoter, with his first official bout scheduled for Summer 2026. An opponent has not yet been announced. CSI Sports co-founders Richard and Craig Miele expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Mayweather will “once again continue to dominate boxing with the biggest audience and highest gross events of all time.”

Previous Retirement and Exhibition Fights

Mayweather initially retired in 2017 after defeating Conor McGregor via knockout, finishing his 21-year career with a perfect 50-0 record and winning titles in five weight classes. Since then, he has participated in several exhibition matches, including bouts against Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura, and John Gotti III.

Financial Considerations and Legal Matters

The announcement of Mayweather’s return comes amid reports of financial difficulties. Black Sportsonline references a December 2025 Business Insider story detailing Mayweather’s debts. He is currently involved in legal disputes, including a lawsuit against Showtime for $340 million in misappropriated funds, as well as separate suits regarding unpaid rent ($330,000) and a jewelry bill ($1.4 million).

CSI Sports/Fight Sports Capabilities

CSI Sports/Fight Sports boasts a significant reach, distributing content in over 190 countries and reaching more than 80 million households in the U.S. The company too controls global rights to HBO World Championship Boxing events and owns the USA Tuesday Night Fights series, featuring content with boxing icons like Mayweather, Tyson, and Oscar De La Hoya.
