Scottish Footballers’ Unusual Team-Building Experiences: From SAS Training too Go-Karting Scuffles

Recent stories emerging from Scottish football reveal some unconventional team-building exercises and off-field antics. While manny teams opt for standard activities, players from Partick Thistle experienced a notably intense training session involving the UK’s Special Air Service (SAS), and a heated go-karting rivalry between former Hearts defender Robbie Neilson and goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin escalated into a physical altercation.

partick Thistle’s SAS Training Experiance

Partick Thistle players underwent a unique and unsettling team-building exercise orchestrated by the SAS, as reported by the BBC. The training involved being subjected to disorientation tactics in complete darkness, designed to test thier resilience and trust in one another.

Former Thistle striker Kris Doolan described a harrowing experience where players were “rag-dolled” by masked individuals and left “bouncing off walls in total darkness.” The exercise proved deeply unsettling for some, with one player fleeing into the hills and requiring retrieval by four soldiers, and another breaking down in tears.

Despite the challenging nature of the training,Partick Thistle enjoyed a prosperous season, finishing in a secure sixth place in the Scottish Championship. Whether the SAS training contributed to this success remains a matter of speculation, but it certainly provided a memorable – and for some, traumatic – experience.

Go-Karting Clash: Neilson and McLaughlin

In a far less intense, but equally revealing incident, former Hearts defender Robbie Neilson recounted a physical altercation with goalkeeper Gordon (Jon) McLaughlin following a competitive go-karting session.
