A fire that ignited Tuesday evening in the Foothill area of Douglas County, Nevada, has been contained, according to county officials. Voluntary evacuations that were initially advised for residents in the Old Kingsbury Neighborhood, including Apple Creek, Foothill, and Mottsville, have been lifted.

Fire Details and Evacuations

The fire started on Tuesday evening, prompting Douglas County to issue voluntary evacuation notices for several neighborhoods. Residents in Apple Creek, Foothill, and Mottsville were advised to be prepared to evacuate, though evacuations were not mandatory. 2 News reported the fire was contained around 11 p.m.

Road Closures

Mottsville Road was temporarily closed while crews worked to extinguish the blaze, but has since reopened along with Foothill Road and Kingsbury Grade. Authorities initially advised drivers to seek alternative routes.

Previous Foothill Area Fires

This incident follows a previous structure fire in the Foothill area on August 7, 2025, at 928 Foothill Road. The Record Courier reported that fire was initially reported as a small wildland fire but quickly escalated, resulting in the loss of a home. East Fork firefighters were assisted by units from Lake Tahoe and Carson City in battling that blaze.

In November 2020, a fire also broke out in the Douglas County Foothill area near Gardnerville, prompting voluntary evacuations for Apple Creek, Foothill, Mottsville, and surrounding areas. The Reno Gazette Journal reported that those evacuations were also lifted, and Mottsville Road was cleared shortly after.
