Jesy Nelson’s Twins Face Rare Health Challenge

Jesy Nelson, the former Little Mix singer, shared that her twin babies will “fight all the odds” after they were diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA1), a rare genetic condition that significantly impacts mobility.

Nelson and her fiancé, Zion Foster, welcomed Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster prematurely in May. In a heartfelt Instagram video posted on Sunday, Nelson revealed the diagnosis.

“We were told that they’re probably never going to be able to walk; they probably will never regain their neck strength, so they will be disabled, and so the best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment, and then just hope for the best,” she explained.

She emphasized the critical importance of treatment, stating,”Thankfully, the girls have had their treatment, wich you know,I’m so grateful for as if they don’t have it,they will die.”

Nelson described four months of “gruelling” hospital appointments leading to the diagnosis. She aims to raise awareness about SMA1 and its early signs, stressing that “time is of the essence” with this disease.

SMA1 is the most severe and common form of spinal muscular atrophy,a genetic neuromuscular disorder causing muscle weakness, progressive loss of movement, and paralysis.

“I just think that I can raise as much awareness about this as possible, and the signs, then, you know, something good has to come out of this,” Nelson said.
