Former player Urtzi Abanzabalegi dies after receiving an electric shock while working

former rugby player Urzi Abanzabalegi, 46 years old, has died in the Biscayan town of Abadiño after receiving an electrical shock while working, the Security Department of the Basque Government has reported.

The accident occurred in the company Piergburg, S.A.where Abanzabalegi, employee of Anboto Electricityworked as a subcontractor, according to the LAB union.

Urtzi played for several teams such as Eibar Rugby Taldea, Getxo, Ordizia, Stade Hendayais, Bera Bera, Basque Korsarioak and the Euskadi national team.

“This morning Urtzi Abanzabalegi, former Ordizia player, left us. You were the leader of our forwards for many years and in the club’s greatest victories. Wherever you are, a friendly hug,” said the AMPO Ordisia.

The accident occurred around ten in the morning, and the victim’s co-workers notified the emergency services of the event.
