Ballyhaunis Former Post Office Up for Sale – Could It Become Housing?
The former post office building on Bridge Street in Ballyhaunis is on the market for €100,000, prompting speculation about its future.
Downsizing the Price Tag
An Post is selling the property through Dublin-based real estate agency Cushman Wakefield. Local estate agent Kevin Kirrane believes the low guide price will likely lead to its conversion into residential accommodation.
Residential Revival in Ballyhaunis
Kirrane sees this trend continuing, highlighting how changing work patterns are driving demand for homes over commercial space. “Yes, I would like to see more commercial use in the town but everyone wants to work from home now,” he notes.
A Town Transformed
The decline of commercial properties is evident in Ballyhaunis. Recently, Sparkys, a discount store, closed after operating for over 20 years.
The Former Post Office: A Glimpse Inside
Cushman Wakefield describes the 2,573 square foot building as an end-of-terrace two-storey structure with a small flat-roofed extension and a walled yard area. It adds that the interior comprises the former post office and sorting offices on the ground floor, along with several rooms at the first-floor level.
Investing in Ballyhaunis’ Future
Two Dublin-based property developers are actively investing in Ballyhaunis’ future. Keenan Property Management acquired the former Epic nightclub on Main Street, while Ballsbridge-based Sayvale is transforming the former Bank of Ireland building on the square into six apartments.
What’s Next for Ballyhaunis?
With its rich history and evolving landscape, Ballyhaunis is poised for an exciting transformation. Will the former post office building become a vibrant new residential space, contributing to the town’s continued growth?
