French Prime Minister, Elisabeth Bornehas announced this Sunday that the French Government plans to ban disposable electronic cigarettes “soon”which give “bad habits to young people.”

During an interview with the RTL station, Borne recalled that tobacco means “75,000 deaths a year”, a “huge” figure and a “major public health challenge”.

The French government “will shortly present a new national plan to combat smoking, with a ban on disposable electronic cigarettes (…), which give young people bad habits,” explained the leader.

These devices, with a sugary or fruity flavor and brightly colored packaging reminiscent of sweets, are sold at a modest price, between 8 and 12 euros for 500 puffs. They have raised concerns because they are especially attractive to teenagers, despite the fact that the sale of electronic cigarettes is prohibited to minors.

Several European countries such as Germany, Belgium and Ireland have already banned single-use electronic cigarettes, which arrived in France at the end of 2021 and whose puffs can have a nicotine concentration of between 0 and 20 mg/ml.
