Virginia Beach to Unveil “Harbor of Stories” Public Art in Historic Kempsville
The City of Virginia Beach is blending contemporary art with local heritage this April. Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the community’s identity through two upcoming events centered around the historic Kempsville area, culminating in the dedication of a vibrant fresh public installation titled “Harbor of Stories.”
The Dedication of “Harbor of Stories”
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the City of Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Department will officially dedicate “Harbor of Stories.” The event takes place from 10:00 a.m. To 11:00 a.m. at the northeast corner of Witchduck Road and Princess Anne Road.
This public artwork is the result of a collaborative effort between Washington Glass Studio, the City of Virginia Beach and the Kempsville community. The piece is designed to serve as a visual landmark that reflects the spirit and narrative of the area.
Exploring Local Roots: “Defining Kempsville”
To provide historical context for the new art installation, the city is hosting a pre-event talk titled “Defining Kempsville.” This session explores the historic contributions of the Kempsville area and its specific role in the broader history of Virginia Beach.

The talk will be led by Dr. Stephen Mansfield, a professor at Virginia Wesleyan University and the author of “Princess Anne County and Virginia Beach: A Pictorial History.”
- Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
